Is it hard to retrofit a sportline steering gearbox to a regular 300e?

Hi Y'all,
Well, my 300e has an interesting new problem...the power steering system completely self destructed. The pump, lines, and steering box all are leaking like a sieve and have to be replaced I've no idea why, it has been serviced religiously with only MB P/S fluid. The dealer quoted me $1200 for a complete rebuild, something I can't swallow right about now, so i'm doin it myself. If i could, I would like to source a Sportline steering box for the project, cause it has a quicker steering ratio. Does anybody know if the sportline box will drop into an 87 300e or do I have to stick with stock?
Thanks!
Scott
