long time ago in a late 70's dodge

a buddy was driving home to chicago from lake geneva on rt 12. this was a little used freeway section of 12 that joined northern ill with southern wis. not heavily travelled. so john was feeling ill in the back seat and his little bro had the polara police interceptor flying on empty rt 12. when tommy saw the lights on he said to john that a cop was chasing them but not catching up. john said to slow down and tommy did to 70. the cop said he thought they were going a whole lot faster than 70 but wrote them up cor that. i don't remember the cost as this was easily 30 yrs ago. a couple days later john looked at the speedo and the needle was bent 16 mph on the 120 scale.

How about a break?

I have gotten a couple in the 95 mph range. Here is a story: I was coming home from a business trip from Minnesota to Chicago and in the middle of Wisconsin I had my 1985 Merkur XR4ti at 100 mph. I was passing a Ford Taurus and saw the radar gun hanging on the visor. I hit my brakes before the lights went on and never came off the brake until stopped. The cop was an alumni form the same school but I got the ticket for 95 in a 55 zone. I never deserved one more. I once went to court to fight a 93 in a 55 ticket and asked the judge to knock it down. He yelled at me that the cop should have given me reckless driving then yelled at the cop. This was years ago and the fine was $90.

During my youth I was tagged for 137 mph in a 55. 455 powered Olds Cutlass. Lots of go, but man was that thing scary at speed. Drifting what seemed like feet on the highway. Lost my license for six months. The worst part was this was the summer before I started college, so the first semester of school I was without a car.

Very recently I got a 110 in a 55 (I just don't learn ). Weird, my lawyer just called while I was typing this. $600. ****e. Says we can beat it no problem though. Hey as long as it stays off my record. More to come on this one, got court next week. Three AM on a 6 lane toll road, not a car on the road...except of course him. I got all the luck.

Blockin' the Left Lane

Got pulled over by a Mich St. Trooper, while doing 75 in a 55 zone on freeway (old Jimmy Carter days- yuck) in the left lane. I saw him coming, pulled over and let him by, then went back to the left lane. He hit his brakes hard in the right lane, pulled in behind me and pulled me over.

He started to give me "what for" for blockin' the left lane (at 20 over). Then he saw where I was headed, which has a left lane exit...he sez, Oh, I'm sorry, you're turning left...sorry I stopped you. Off he went with no ticket.

Trooper's in MI are usually pretty fair, although I have had two tickets in 30 years (one deserved, one maybe not).

PA State Trooper once just shook his finger at me after he hit me with instant-on radar. I was doing maybe 70 mph in a 55. I smiled back at him, and I swore I saw him chuckling.
My Valentine 1 went off just as he hit me with the radar, so maybe it took a few extra milliseconds to lock onto me while my hard braking took me down to 54 mph.
My wife says don't hit the brakes when they clock you, but I do it out of habit.

So after a continuance and some crafty negotiating, I;m walking with a suspended sentence. Got to stay out of trouble until August or I will have a record. Lawyer worked the fines down to $250 and got the other charge (toll evasion, which was BS; I've got the I-Pass unit) dropped. Very cool. Even with his fees, I still came out ahead of what a conviction would have cost and no record. Sometimes good things happen to good people

Hey, congratulations, man... now just stay outta trouble son !
In Pennsylvania they will yank your license for 15 days for anything over 31 mph above the speed limit. That's on your first offense, second time I think gets you 30 days, but I'm not sure. My last suspension was decades ago
I try to avoid tickets, and never go anywhere near 31 or more over the limit....

Got nailed for 140 in a 60 last August,Test driving my 84 380SE (Put a 560 tuner in it) had plates but no ins.card yet. The car is lowered 21/2 inches and i run straight 3" exhaust, no Mufflers or cats. The cop never charged me for the lack of ins. but wouldn't reduce the ticket. Took it to court and they reduced it to min. points and a $75 dollar fine. Just for laughs a freind who is a local cop had me run the car out on a local highway, he got me on radar at 171 mph, couldnt believe a big sedan could go so fast.(still had 500 rpm to go to redline)

I thought he meant 560 engine or perhaps a 560 engine computer??? Probably the engine as a 380 and 560 are of completely different engine classes.

Thanks
David

I think he means a hopped up 560 motor transplanted into his 389 SE. That must be lots of fun!

I've had a few tickets in my time. About 10 years ago I was driving the Porsche 924 I owned at the time back to Sacramento, CA from Los Angeles. It was about 11:30pm, and Hwy5 was empty. I was doing about 115-120mph, and the cop wrote me up for 105. Oddly enough... of all the ticket experiences I've had, he was by far the nicest officer I'd encountered.

1979 in a 1974 Western Star conventional (long nose) tractor trailer (400HP Cummins) loaded with frozen chicken (80,000 gross weight) crossing west Texas on I-20 at about 3 am. Very little traffic (mostly other trucks running nearly as fast) passed a local cop on the shoulder (taking a whizz) blew his ten gallon hat off (covering a two gallon brain). My speedo only went to 85 ( speed limit 55 MPH back then) but my boss said she'd run 110. I never backed off the pedal figuring he might have better things to do. It took Barney 8 miles to catch me in a beat up Nova. He had no radar and his speedo was broken. We both agreed that I was speeding but he was headed to the Waffle House to pick up his cousin/wife so he let me go. At that time I had a New Mexico license (they didn't take tickets from other states) so I wasn't too worried. We call them "New Mexico pilots licenses". Those were the good old days.
