Still vibrating..............

I have a 190 e 2.3 1987 benz, i have had a lot of balancing done to the benz, infact the the gsp 9700 was usedthe last time and my car still vibrates when i approach 50-60mph, i also just replacedthe the struts and shock all the way around, the labor was done by kaufamann tires. Im so sick and tired of this problem , i spent over $1000 and i see no differnce in the smoothness of the ride. What should i do? I feel like im on my own. I dont want t o take it to the dealer now and spend another$1000. ive decided to try to remedy the problem on my own by replaceing the steering wheel shock/dampner. I read about it in a search on this forum. what else can i do to see if i can isolate and fix this problem?

You might want to check your driveshaft and the various components associated with it. I've heard that wear in the driveline can cause a vibration which feels like wheel balancing issues.

You might also want to post this in the Tech section to get feedback from mechanics.

Assume wheels and tires have been checked, then...

Here is a list:

Ball Joints
Upper strut mount
Control arm bushings, toe and camber
Steering damper
wheel bearings
Too much play in steering box?
Broken front sway bar mounts or rear end links
Worn or loose rear shock bushings in trunk
Worn rear links

BTW, does the car vibrate up and down or are the wheels shaking to the left and right? Front or back more?

it vibrates

It vibrates left to right. The mechanic at kaufmann tires told me that the strut mounts are ok even the there seem to be a crack on both of them which is about half the circumfrence of the rubber mount .He says strut mounts shouldnt cause any vibration unless they are completely busted....Do you think that could play a part in the vibrating problem.

Uhmmm. Yeah!

If there is even a slightly cracked one replace them. Both are less than a $100 bucks. Chances are this was your problem all along and they are taking you for a ride for your money.

What mechanic would tell you to not replace something that is broke or craked? Especially on the suspension. Email me an I will get to you for cost and you can replace them at home.

Check the bushings on the pitman arm at the passenger side of the steering drag link.
