Question Suggestions On Headers Pls

Just wondering what people do when they upgrade their engine with a headers/downpipes but the problem is the upgrade is not CARB approved so it will not pass the visual test. Is there a way around this or what? Again looking for a suggestion/solution.

thanks!

What year & model? There aren't many applications for MB's. Most would have to be made by hand.

If You take the car into a shop and the TECH is a Tough guy ...He can fail the car for the headers ..Unless they have a CARB cert on them..

Spend the Money and Buy the Correct headers..Carb Legal!

Or hand Out Several Bennies to Smog The Car!

JamE55,

I am faced with the same problem for my C43. I think I will go for a good set of hand built headers with better collectors than I have seen on current MB production stuff. Then I will install Fabspeed metal cats in the precat location with the O2 sensor, etc.

Quotes I have recieved from race shops to build one off headers have been from $1000 to $2000.

As for cams I am going to buy a set of 430 cams from Potomac German Auto and send them to Webcam and have them hard weld and regrind the cams to the specs that I believe will work the best. Most likely very close to Shieck(sp?) cams but with faster ramp openings, if lifters and springs can handle it.

Should be less than $1000. I have had many sets of cams prepared by Webcam and they do a great job.

Jeff

JamE55,

I saw a set of custom headers (from Renntech) on James Cannon's W210 E55 yesterday at the drags. Sorry, I didn't get any pics of the headers, though.

speedybenz :

Think i'll just go for it since i don't drive the car very much so if the time comes to do the smog check i'll just have the stock put back on. As far as the camsi might go with schrick or evosport cams. Don't really want to have to deal with custom made ones (although i think great) and have some issues in the future. But still doing my homework on this one.

el presidente :

Do you have more info on this? Went to Renntechs site and didn't see those header information in there?

Thanks

Only that he had *just* picked the car up in Florida and drove it straight to the track. I looking in the engine bay, but no pics. I did not inquire as to cost, etc.

E-mail James F. Cannon and I'm certain he can advise on all the details.
