cams and headers for US 16v

Hi
just chatting with my mechanic friend about my increasing power(N/A) to my 16v, he suggested using "european camshaft and headers", and said would gain approx. 20hp on otherwise stock US 16v. Is this feasible? or is he too optomistic? I thought the 2.5 16v cams don't fit our US counterpart without some mods?
