Sportline or 500e struts -new bump stop required?
I'm getting ready to put e500 front struts on my E420 that has had Mercedes Euro sport springs installed (big mistake to have used Bilstein HD's on this application, the struts were almost bottomed out most of the time.) Does anyone know whether the bump stops that go on the shaft of the struts need to be changed? Are they shorter on either E500 or sportline cars (E420/400E or 300E/E320's)?
The EPC says use 124 323 07 44 on the stock E420/ 124 323 06 44 on the E500, and 129 323 07 44 on the european sport undercarriage version of the E420. I need to order these fast to get my install done this weekend if they're needed. Thanks for any help you can give.

The bump stops do deteriorate and should be replaced when you take out the struts. Can't help you about the lengths. On my W201 with Eibachs and Bil Sports, the OEM stops seem to work fine.

This is probably too late, but the Sport bump stops are a lot firmer than the stock ones. They're also a little shorter. I just replaced my worn-out stock bumpers with the Sport versions, one of those 124- numbers you listed below. I think I ordered both the 06 and the 07 to compare, and I couldn't tell a difference in size or stiffness, only color. I'm still not sure what the difference is between them. I used one set on each of my 2 cars.
BTW - how do you like the E500 struts on your E420? For the internal rebound springs to work properly, you need to try to keep the ride height as close as possible to the stock E500 ride height. Any lower and the internal springs won't work as intended because they will be too far away when body roll begins during a cornering transition... |
