Lightbulb 1992 400E ASR Defeat (stop limp mode)

I wish to defeat the asr in my 400e. I have read many of the posts on this site on how to do this. If I succeed, will the limp mode also never happen again? I do not care if I have the ASR capabilities. Can anyone help me?

Thanks,

Russ Swallow

That's hard to say...limp mode can be caused by other items at fault...its commonly not related to the ASR even though it lites up the ASR lite. But it certainly could be a problem with your ASR.

Just un-plug the speed sensors at the front shock towers and drive around with it like that....see what happens. ASR will be off as well as ABS.

You really need to have the codes read to see what is causing the limp mode. I had a limp mode problem in my 500E for a bit...turned out to be the Throttle Body Acuator...which wasn't even listed as a fault code. Tricky stuff to hunt down IMO.

Thanks Jim,

Tomorrow I will be taking the car to the Mercedes service center.
I will post again when I get the results.

Thanks again,

Russ

Had the same problem recently with . . . .

my S500 and ended up replacing the ETA.

But you can disable the ASR by shorting Pin 1 to Pin 6 in the 38 pin diagnostic connector. Be careful and make sure that you don't short any adjacent pins.

For more details, check my page (click the 'www' icon below) and look at Menu#24.
