Can anyone tell me what the specification on maximum boost pressure is for a 1983 300D? I've heard that maximum boost on these models is adjustable. Is this true? Is there more than one manufacturer of turbo used on the 300D? Lastly, where does one adjust the boost and how is it done? Thanks for all replies.

Here is a link that should answer your questions regarding checking boost.http://hsb.baylor.edu/html/easley/autofaqs/boostchk.htm
This one http://hsb.baylor.edu/html/easley/autofaqs/wgate.htm tells about identifying brand of charger (KKK/Garrett) and adjusting pressure. I found out the brand name of mine accidentally by removing the horn that goes from the airfilter housing to the turbo inlet. At this point I could see the letters "KKK" on the turbo. I must say I was surprised at the size of the blades...much smaller than I thought.
Good luck and be careful..."them things aint cheap"

I would not adjust the pressure of the boost. If you are having lack of power, you should have the common items checked (t-chain, injection timing and fuel filters). Then have the anaroid checked and adjusted for a huge difference in power. If you go to far on the anaroid, you will get too much smoke.

If thought that my 300D was adequate power wise, but would not have minded more...Then just a few days ago, I was reading one of the posts when I decided to give the Bowden cable adjustment one more try. Much , much to my surprise and elation, the car had a significant improvement in acceleration...mostly due to the fact that by the time I had hit 20mph or so I was already in 4th gear, even at full throttle (not pressing on the kickdown switch). Now, it shifts later and I actually get to take advantage of 2nd and 3rd gear for more than just 2 sec. at best.
ps I wouldn't mess with the boost either, besides I have yet to hear of anyone needing to do so.

See ya!
