Oh they are special "ghost" number plates so I can join in with the national past time over here => jumping red lights...

...as you can see cameras can't pick up your number - very handy - kind of James Bond...

...no tax - no insurance - license to kill...

..one day i'll catch you out Stretch

Funny as it seems now, but there were UK vendors selling non-reflective plates which they claimed couldn't be photographed

Of course, i don't have that problem driving the elongated snail aka S124..it's the journey that counts.(or so I keep telling myself as cars hurtle past me)..

Seriously though - I don't believe those "Jame Bond" number plates work. They were for sale along with radar detectors (which are now illegal in Holland!) about a decade or so ago.

Besides as it is a national past time I don't think the police in Holland care too much about it - that and texting / watching movies whilst driving. It must be alright because they are all doing it...

Talking of James Bond hows this for a coincidence. After my reply to you I clicked on this excellent thread to find:

"One final modification I did was to fit a retractable front number plate mechanism. This is a simple spring-loaded hinged assembly that allows the plate to fold to horizontal (& upside down) at over 60km/h."

More pictures

I'm moving to the back of the warehouse to make way for the redevelopment at the front.

I consider this to be a little bit like being with the tough kids at the back of the bus!

So don't mess with me - I'll spit chewing gum in your hair and set light to ya coat...

...anyway sorry about that flashback - here are some more pictures of the W201 in a grungy setting.

I'm trying to get some racks that are usually used in warehouses for holding pallets and I might set them on either side of this space so I can then go and get the W123 and hoist it up and out of the way (could be like a DIY 4 post lift) - I might have to reconsider this - I might die!

Anyway the nice thing about this space is that there's plenty of room with light. The dark hole at the front of the building got a bit depressing - so now at least I can see all that electro-corrosion powder on the Land Rover...

It would lend itself well to an inspection pit, that is if not rented/leased of course.

Agree on the light aspect, could carry out major overhauls without weather constraints.

Unfortunately I'm renting so what I can do is limited. Still it is a nicer place to be working in that at the front of the building which is a bit dark at the moment cos the windows are boarded up.

Wow - red letter day today.

I had the annual safety check and they rang me at 10AM but I missed the call...

...got me thinking oh crap what did I miss? I always check everything before I take it off for the test anyway to save egg on the face for the obvious like a blown bulb...

...amazingly (#1) I was told to come and pick it up!

Cool - no advisories - sailed through

Amazingly (#2) the supposedly worn ball joint that got an advisory last year (that I checked and checked and checked and couldn't find anything wrong) has got better. So I'm a believer in these cars fixing themselves...

...alternatively a believer that some times these tester chaps are so busy they get confused about with car they are writing up the ticket for...

...still good lads they are - I'm very happy with kwikfit (and normally people don't say that!)

Well done dude, once up to scratch just a case of maintaining year on year especially with such a comprehensive resto as your is.

Last couple of electrical gremlins on mine, nothing serious, more of a niggle really.

Congrats on passing inspection! It was a nailbiter sending the SDL through inspection last year, but it managed to pass (I think they felt sorry for me). This year it will actually earn it.

Thanks chaps.

The bloody thing is still possessed though! The speedometer has been clicking for a while and has now developed a high pitched squeal after I've been driving for about 30 minutes. Pain in the backside as it also effects that dreaded road speed sensor (which makes the idle a bit high until a total stop is reached)...

...so as always (no matter how much work you've done) there's always something to do.

If I can figure out how to fix the speedo I'll post up some pictures (I've seen several on the interweb for different systems but none for mine).

Hmmm

Operation instrument cluster ___k is underway

Doesn't look like it will be an easy fix for a DIYer. I've seen a thread over on BW for this with a non downloadable PDF but I get the feeling the position of the needle on the shaft going into the speedometer is crucial...

...anyway pictures =>

{We always like pictures}

Pulling this sodding thing out of the dashboard is always a pain in the arse. Well a pain in the hand actually. No space back there especially for chaps with pigs tits for fingers.

That's the road speed sensor removed. This is a CIS KE II thang - not used on vehicles older than about 1986 or perhaps 1987

This bit is the potentiometer for the dashboard lighting (dimmer)

Although it looks promising that you can remove just one bit, to stop you from breaking the plastic you need to remove all three parts of the cluster in one go.

Then it is the four little flat head screws to get to the speedometer...

Operation cluster ???? continued

'Eres the speedometer removed.

I managed to pull off the little black beauty cap but the needle is well and truly stuck on there...

...before I go any further (if at all) I'm going to do the prudent thing and find a replacement...
