On this last type of cladding (much like the other types so it seems in the FSM) there are screws (in my case 2) in the trailing edges of the doors that need to be removed to get the door cladding off.

The rest of the stuff is then meant to unclip and slide out. As you can see some of that was successful some not...

...as it was getting dark and I'm expecting snow I taped over the holes to stop the insides of the doors from getting too wet.

That actually was one of the more enjoyable things I've done of late.

Oh yeah all the fun of the fair!

Still slowly getting round to this (being a fair weather mechanic actually - far too wet and cold outside at the moment)

I found this under the front seat (which was nice)

Now scratching head =>

I hear ya. I can't work out in the cold either so not much happening here either . The clip situation is sitting in front of a computer for a day or so making sure you got everything you need . Have fun . It's a jug saw puzzle . I keep all my extra bolts , screws etc in a special MB fastener organizer . They may make it back to where they belong at some point

Oh I have a similar system that needs to be revised - it consists of plastic bags, jam jars and old cardboard boxes that have been scattered somewhere within the car, the garden shed, the garage, some bits in the loft and the rest under the living room floor!

{oh well - live and learn - or not}

Time to get this one road worthy

I'm off to UK so I need a car that works.

The "other one" has gone off to storage

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/restoration-projects-long-term-builds/358482-ups-downs-owning-w123-130-non-turbo-300d-3.html

I now have space to get the suspension adjusted on the W201

Next week Friday - safety inspection (MOT/APK) is booked.

Also had to drive the W201 for a bit today - reverse and 1st gear works!

Is the inspection transferrable to the UK or will you need to have it done again over there?

I don't know really. I guess not. The Dutch system is pretty slack compared with the UK checks.

The catalytic converter and the injectors...

...if it fails it will probably be the fumes!

Had a quick fiddle with rear suspension adjustments today

...didn't get very far though - still it is a step in the right direction

Playing with a DIY camber gauge.

MOT / APK / safety check - epic fail!

Nightmare - I came a cropper with a bit of a communication issue. I had arranged for the same company that is doing the safety checks to do the alignment as I'm running out of time with packing and trying to get on a boat back to England before the end of the month. I'd arranged with one guy that I'd leave some of the bolts loose so they could crack on with the alignment. Guy #1 says OK as some parts do need to be loosened to adjust - guy #2 doing the job (also the tester) wasn't impressed.

{Deep breath - keep smiling!}

I can see the tester's point of view (guy #2) that he's got to sign off on my work (so to speak) and needs to feel a level of confidence with the car but I'm somewhat irritated that this was arranged with guy #1. So lesson learned - only speak with guy #2.

(Having worked on aircraft I know what it is like to be pressured into signing for other people's work - it isn't nice if you're not happy with what has been done - so I kind of see the problem guy #2 has)

Despite explaining it all to guy #2 I got sent home with the car with my tail between the legs. It is after all Friday afternoon...

...I'm booked in again next Tuesday.

I did notice on the way to the garage the speedo wasn't working - so perhaps this is all for the better - that needs to be checked out as I can't hammer through Belgium without a working speedo =>

Don't forget folks - nothing is ever easy - and this is after all das schweinhund baby benz.

Can you just use a GPS for a speedo? I assume that the speedo doesn't need to be functional to pass...

I found trouble - I pushed the MOT forwards into this week - unfortunately they only had space on this Friday. Down to the wire as usual.

I'll have to get something like that if it doesn't get sorted.
