Drive up ramps, safety, recommendation

My husband and I don't have a great spot to put a lift on our property, so we're going to have to go with drive up ramps, since they are at least somewhat safer than jacking up a car.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a brand that's super safe?

Do they even still make those?? just kidding... The set i have has been around since the early 80's i'm sure. just simple bend steel construction never failed me yet and have been plenty strong to lift multiple MBZ over the years.

Definitely go for all metal. No plastic!

The ones i have are exactly like these.

ANYTHING .... hydraulic will fail at the worst possible moment. IF you use hydraulics, ALWAYS block the vehicle up before getting under it.

Ramps work well as do side lift hydraulics or 4 post lifts for about $2k.

If you have a flat, concrete floor (not a gravel driveway), then the Rhinus ramps are awesome! Yes, they are (reinforced) plastic, and I would prefer these over steel ramps.

You can get them for 60 bucks if you have Amazon Prime:

They support up to 16000 LBS, they don't slip on a concrete floor and they are very light as well, and can be stored stacked on top of each other. I've used them for a variety of cars, and they are awesome.

I wouldn't use these on a gravel drive way though (not sure how they would hold up), and as always, place jack stands under the frame rails of the car - even when it's on ramps - and if you have an extra set of rims, throw those under there as well. Never have a single point of failure.

I always have my wife checking when I drive a car up on the ramps, just to make sure I put the ramps out straight and the car is centered on them.

I don't work for Rhino, but I do think these ramps are pretty sweet.

Alternatively, you can build your own ramps out of 20 bucks of wood:
Homemade car ramps. (No laughing).

I have Rhino's too. They are decent. I'm in the same position as the OP though. Wish I could have a proper lift but I have to make do.

I have a pair of solid rubber ramps. Heavy! They are likely made from recycled tires.

Only problem I have with them, is that garage floor is smooth concrete and the ramps will sometimes slip despite having a serrated rubber bottom. Sollution for all ramps, is to attach a this piece of rubber, carpet, plywood or maybe metal to under side so that car weight hold ramp in place before you drive up the incline.

I have a set of the rhino ramps and I'm very pleased with how well they hold up.

I would love the portable lift that Pelican sells but its pretty $$$

I use steel ramps, still. I drove my 6.2 diesel Blazer (+4wd!) up on my first set, got a little 'off' and one ramp actually collapsed on me, a slow drop. Did not like the looks of the plastic ones, new steel ones, I am now extremely careful using them. This set 15 +- yrs old.
