S124 Restoration build...

Hey, I thought I'd introduce my self.
I'm Joshua I've been wrenching for about 20 years now and I currently have a 1993 300TE I'm building. I always likes the boxy Mercedes and finally scooped one that was in okay shape becides the blown head gasket and SLS nitrogen tanks needing to be replaced.

My plans at first was to do a single turbo manual M104, but then I just started to think it would be cool with a swap. so I now have a OM606 with a 6 speed that I'm putting into it.

Other plans are full suspension bushing replacement. As well as lowering springs, front bilstein shocks, a 400E rear subframe, and camber plates/arms.
I also have some lorinser LM1's in 18x8 and 18x9 to put on.

As for the body I would love to do a 500E wide body. Maybe next year I will but for now I'm just going to get the AMG later generation body kit, since I did a face lift.

I also swap the interior for a Brazil Brown one from the grey it came with. The only issue I had was not being able to have 3rd row seats, because the 1987 donor interior didn't have 3rd row Retrofitting could have been a option, but I didn't bother. They would probably never get used.

I do video updates usually once or twice a month of my progress.

Let me know what you guys think.
And subscribe for updates

Joshua

That looks to be a good body to start with. Your car looks to be a 92 model model year as I could tell wheels, side markers, hood etc. Maybe it was replaced at some point?
An 606 with a 6 speed should be pretty fun. I was going to swap a 300d 2.5 turbo on my wagon since I haven't found a 606 I can put in. Looking forward to your updates..

Thumbs up

Hey, Joshua:

I'm very interested in seeing how the engine/transmission swap goes. I also have a 300 TE, and both my engine and transmission could stand to be freshened. Mine's a 4-Matic, though, and I expect that complicates a swap considerably unless one does away with the front-drive gubbins.

If you're parting out the grey interior, I have some needs:
--C-pillar trim from both sides
--there's a little plastic cover--about 1" x 2"--that goes over an access port that's in the center top of the rear hatch, above the rear window
--3rd row seat

Good luck!

4-Matic wouldn't queer the deal. The front diff is in the oil pan and they share the same bolt pattern and would interchange. Only bit of fiddling would be getting the oil pump and pickup happy in the 4-m pan. I've always wanted to do a 606 4-M wagon but just ended up turbo-ing the M103.

Sorry for the hijak

Good looking car. I also have a 91 300TE with a manual swap so I'm very interested to see how you progress with the OM606 and 6 speed.
