That is beautiful work! I could not afford to send items out for re-plating so I used paint. Your results are much nicer.

More pictures of the m103 and some minor update.
Thanks guys for the comments doing my best to prepare my w124 300E as a future classic. In the netherlands they are becoming rare(in good conidtion) and more and more expensive to buy.
The plating itself is not expensive if you compare it with buying the parts new. Most of the new bolts from the dealer are not yellow plated anymore doing the costs and are often just silver or some other protection. I paid 200 euro total for all the plating Will still send few parts for plating(My battery tray will be yellow plated) and the bracket for the converter will also be plated yellow. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have got my pulleys back from the plating (blue silver) together with the brackets (also blue silver) The horns are also plated because they are from metal and will rust. The only thing that i need to do is paint the edges black ,because the paint had chipped away during te cleaning proces. The side panels are cleaned with wd40 and looking like new The mechanism will be lubricated with mos2 grease I will change the capacitors on the ke-jetronic unit because they like to go bad after 32 years of service (will use nichicon capacitors) 2x 220ufx40 volt and i will use 220uf50 volt |

first of, off I (we) appreciate your excellent photos documenting the progress.
Maybe this car should be in a Museum someday! just kidding but I'm sure its not going to the market and back every day! My hats off to you for a first rate job ! DDH PS. I go through Orinda occasionally as its not far from here (San Francisco Bay Area) and glad to see a car travel so far to be resurrected! I wish you could work on my '87 300D - ha!

Car itself was in mint condition for its age. The previous owner kept the car in a garage for 28 years and did short trips only. When the car came to the netherlands it had original 99.000 miles So i'm just freshing up the look and do some little repairs. Most problem area are the old worn rubber because of age. The car is 99.9 rustfree so thats hard to find here in europe because most w124 have rust all over the place and have poor interiors. I will keep up the pictures Greetings Michael |

m103 rebuilding
The condensor is placed/Dryer/Sensors
The radiator is placed with the ventilator Have removed minor rust underneath the wiper reservoir (5cm) and no holes Used dealer paint with clearcoat to repaint the spot and it worked really good. Also found a free 10p15c compressor with minor leakage(I will buy a gasketkit for the compressor to reseal it) but it was for free This week the plastic insert for the chrome grille will arrive(dealer) I have bought a aftermarket one (12 euro) and it was a piece of **** (it was like a uro part) but it wont fit the new oem grille so i have ordered it at the stealer. |
