300E-24 Sportline, 300TE-24 Sportline resurrection

Hi and greetings from Estonia.

Here are 2 of my cars that i have carefully chosen to my small classical Mercedes collection. Over the years I've owed I think more than 30 different cars, some newer, some older. Majority of them have been with rear wheel drive and with 6 cylinder petrol engines. I do have a 300E with M103 but maybe will write about it some other time.

When I bought the car it was in pretty bad shape for being a quite rare version. Tinted windows, led lights everywhere, W220 steering wheel, terrible electrics

The car was missing rear swaybar and the rear axle mounting points...they did not exist anymore.

my favourite part - a Brabus wannabee rear muffler

The first job was to fix the rear axle mounting points and remove the rust

Then remove all tinted windows and fix the suspension (the nose was running too low and back end was sitting up too high.

Replace W220 steering wheel with correct steering wheel

Replace the W220 16" wheels with AMG 17x7,5 and 17x8,5 Wheels

Among other things, I replaced all the components in the braking system. Everything is now or rebuilt.

Now its time to fix the engine, as the head gasket let go in the end of the last season. For that, I have a spare engine from my 300TE-24 Sportline parts car. Current engine was missing the air pump anyways, so after this upgrade, I should have almost all components in place.

Here is some before and after before removing tinted windows:

Its been great owning this W124. The fact that its a 4 seater makes it quite special for me. The fact that its a black car with light beige interior makes it even more special and being a full Sportline option car is just perfect for me.

As this car is not being original anymore I plan to add some tasty parts to it.

Now

The second car has the same roots, the same heritage as the sedan. Motivation to buy it was very practical, recently I became the father again we needed some car to put all the stuff in. The trunk of W124 sedan is not the biggest in the world, so once you add all your baby gear in it, there is no room for smth else...

951 SPORTLINE (CONSISTING OF CODES 65/0, 244, 281)"

Again, when I bought the car, it was in terrible shape... the same story, as the sedan but coming from completely different owners. Pictures will speak for themselves:

Cool 7 seater feature:

Khmm as you can see I was "blessed again" with Barabus wannabee muffler

Sport seats on the front

Alpaca Grey Interior.

Again first thing I did was to remove all the old tint from windows:

Then i decided to swap the wheels to someting more according to my personal taste. Those are 500E 8 holes with 16x8, ET34 offset and 205/55/16 Pirelli tires.

I think it looks much better allready.

This car needs a bit more work in the rust department:

As it has some typical spots that need attention

Among other things, I removed all the unnecessary electronics from the car (LPG system, some alarm that was horribly installed etc).

Now the interior is all back in one piece, all the hideous LED lights have been removed. I had to replace a lot of bulbs , but I like the classical look WAY more

The car will go to welding/repaint shop in a couple of weeks. Will have new photos to show you guys.

Stay tuned

Wow! Well done.
The dashboard on both cars held up pretty well despite all the abuse.

As the 300TE what i bought needed a lot of attention related to rust I decided to save myself from trouble and bought nearly a rust free donor car with the same colour.

During the last couple of days, I swapped all 4 doors, front fenders, trunk lid, lights and bumpers from the donor car to my car and from my 300TE back to the donor car. It was quite an exercise, getting everything lined up and work (donor car has manual windows in the back instead of electrical ones.

The final result is here before going to the body shop for rust treatment and respray.

Realizing that this thread is over a year old, I'm interested in the Sportline S124 package, specifically the rear strut springs for the Self-Leveling Suspension (SLS), as I'm trying to get my '94 E320T to handle better. Can you offer any advice on how I can get a set sent to the USA?
