In this case I have a car, subframe, transmission and all supporting modules. Might be real easy or could be a PIA.

I think about all the efforts I put into my old W123's and worthless old Motocycles and still cannot decide .

Like you I look at a pile of parts or a dead machine and begin to ponder....

So the new subframe was installed but all did not go too well. One of the goals was lower the engine. I did that but it was too much. There ended up being too much angle across the drive shaft U joint. It started out at 3.2° where it made a slight noise that could be heard in the cockpit on start up. At 2.2° the noise was gone but you could still see it and hear it on video. And finally at 1.7° there was slightly better results, but I'm not sure what a stock 560SL should be like, so I will attempt to install the GoPro in the near future.

In any case the car is running satisfactory now and is back together for the summer cruising.

Actually it wasn't that bad. It felt like a torque converter clutch shudder during lockup and didn't make a noise every time unless you accelerated fairly hard. When I brought the angle down to 2.1° you couldn't here it at all but the video still shows a fair amount of vibration. I think a little of this may be normal. I will need to make up brackets and test my stock 560SL.

Post Driveline Vibration

When that same center bearing filed in my gray market 350SLC it made soft thumping noises but not all the time....

Lifted the engine another 1/4" to get the drive shaft u joint articulation angle down. It's now at 1.54°. That's close enough to my stock 560SL which is at 1.42°. It appears that anything below 2° has the same results. Until I test my stock 560SL I wont know whats normal. But in any case I cant feel it in the cockpit when its below about 2.2°.

One of the things I was hoping to accomplish with lowering the engine was to get better clearance from my exhaust. I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and lengthen the down pipes about 1/2"

So whats left.

I have to add to the list now, fix the exhaust.

So:
1) Fix exhaust.
2) Get speedometer calibrated for 2.82 gear set
3) Cruise control
4) Evaporative Emissions

With those 4 items the car will have all the functions working it had when it left the factory in 1986.

5) Optional is cold air intake.

So it took 2 years to get the engine in and the car up and running reliably.

Looks like I'm going on 3 years getting all the details working. It is a lot of work.

So all works really well now with Samson so I decided to stress test the AC and cooling system by climbing Mt Mitchell on a 90°F day. Mt Mitchell is the highest peak in the east at ~6600' but no wheres near pikes peak. It did not make it. So off I go to get a really horny fan installed. I will be posting those endeavors on this thread where people have gone before me.

124 electric fan

All work really well now. My fan is now working well, I did make the climb up mt Mitchell with it two days ago and no problems on an 85°F day. Will try again when I get into the high 90's.

I also installed a speedometer calibrator and now that works perfectly.

Speedometer Calibrator 12 Oclocklabs.

So this list shortens once again:
1) Fix exhaust.
2) Cruise control
3) Evaporative Emissions

So after moving back to CT, This year was dedicated to all out maintenance, including resealing the top of the engine and powder coating valve covers and manifold.

Here it is in its current state.

I also will be at Lime Rock on July 9th.
