Is there a red or black cap on the injection pump that reads OEL? If yes it is a reservoir type if not it may be the next gen pressure oiled. Is there a small black tube with banjo fittings from the head to the pump?

I don't see it either. It may be on the four cylinder model/pump. Early 240's and 220's needed oil added to the pump. Later 240's and possibly all 5 cylinder pumps were pressure oiled.

The red cap on the pump in the second post is the oil fill cap.

Since we are in monsoon season it seems limited to interior work. Finally cleaned up the rear windshield, was a mess with old tint glue residue.
Also working on a new rear package tray and trunk floor. Pic is just the wood sitting in place but will have a small panel underneath the carpet to mount everything to.
I ordered new front and rear windshield gaskets, when it rains heavy I noticed some leaking for both so better to just replace them now.

Thinking of doing the glass yourself? It isn't overly difficult I've done a couple fronts. If taking it somewhere don't be their first one for this type of gasket/seal install.

Cleaned up well...looks A LOT better.

Good luck!!!

Thank you.

I will do the glass. I have done about 15 European car restorations over the years, 3 911's etc. Glass, body and Interior are no issue for me except glue in windshields like on a 914. I usually cut the old gasket and bring the entire assembly inside and cut the rubber out around the trim so as not to warp it or bend it, then reinstall and rope it in. Last Bus I did I bought about a lifetime supply of the window "butyl whatever rope" that helps seal in the corners and lock it in.

This is however the first Diesel restoration I have done ever. You guys have helped me tremendously.

Few restorations on other sites.

Made a new package tray, going to mount new speakers underneath to keep it clean. Also finished up the trunk panel.

Looks great! What material did you use for the boot liner/package tray? Looks like Coco-mat. Is it available in black?

Thanks, I wanted some sort of Coco looking mat.
It is actually an outdoor carpet used for porches and such, I threw the wrap away but I grabbed it at a fabric place here, I am sure Lowes or Home depot carries one or something close. I am not sure about black. I am sure you could dye it if not.

Well, this back windshield is proving to be the hardest rope in glass I have ever touched. Had it set once but the trim popped out at the bottom while I was inside so will try again with my wife helping tomorrow, she LOVES to help..

Good news is the paint is nearly perfect in the channel which I was nervous about having to get the welder out to patch.

Allows me to fix the headliner as well so I guess all is not lost, but it broke my one set streak as I haven't had to pull on after I set it since I broke a factory 911 windshield about 12 years ago.

Got it in after letting it sit with the trim in place overnight with clamps. This gasket did not want to take form like others I have used so had to put the gasket in place then bungee it then install trim, then rope it in, Dropping in the hole was certainly the easiest. I always double rope them so in case it does not set on the first pass we can get it on the second, this one dropped in fine on the first pass. This gasket also did not have a provision for the defroster wires so had to drill one on each side, Haven't tested but should still have rear window defroster.

I also heated up the headliner and pulled it back into place, since the rear pillar panels had tears in them any way I will probably make some trim panels that run up to the headliner and call it a day, much simpler than a new headliner.

Will move to the front Windshield later in the week.

Took a little while longer as someone kept bringing me a ball to throw about every 45 seconds.

Post Glass Setting & Trained Humans

Looking better and better ! .

I wonder if you're using cotton or nylon rope ? .

A few years ago I switched to plastic covered flexible wire ~ it works a treat, much better than any rope I ever used .

It's important to be *very* flexible .

I see your pooch has you trained as mine do me ~ I was waxing my new/old truck to - day and they kept insisting I stop to give them belly rubs.....

I hate getting dog hairs in the fresh wax .

The problem is : when they trot up and roll on their backs & wave their feet in the air, how am I supposed to say no or later ? .

I hope you realize that Spring is coming and soon someone will see you driving that beauty and offer you more $ than you have in it.....

I passed a guy in a W113 coupe to day on the freeway, in the fun twisty bits he wasn't even going 55 ~ I guess he's a "serious collector" who never lets the car out to do what it does best .

I was in a pickup truck doing 75 when I zizzed past him , nice silver car looked like new .

I would have passed him in my 240D .

Thanks. It is getting close.

The dogs rule this place for sure. He is one of our puppies from a service line so his drive is pretty intense.

I have used wire in some american cars, but use nylon now. I soak it overnight in dawn but when I was shown the trick of double wrapping I haven't had any issues dropping one in by myself even until this one. In hindsight that was all in not having the corner and ends completely set.

I have had a person drive up the driveway and ask about it already. I plan on using this one and don't plan on selling it, shoot I am more apt to buy more than sell one at this point.

My neighbor who has about 20 diesels stopped by and drove it today and gave his blessing and remarked how peppy it was and said I was going to be spoiled by it.

Thumbs up Old Mercedes Drivers

Therein lies the rub :

They're fantastic to drive once you have them running well .

I'm always amazed at how many others I pass on Road Rallies, in Sports Cars no less .
