Few days ago I gave my neighbor who has the enormous Mercedes collection a heads up on a couple of W126's at a junkyard. We went and he loaded up on parts and I grabbed a near three pointed star for the Wagon. Today he calls me and said you are going to want to meet me at this yard. We have a local yard with tons of stuff that I used to get VW stuff from all the time. He said they have two W115's on has fog lights. So I got out there and met him and we both grabbed some parts. I will go back as one of the cars had plenty of spares and a killer green interior sans seats I would not mind having for later down the road. I did grab some needed parts, all for $10 bux. Now I can swap those modern hella's back for OG fogs.

That junkyard trip was worth it, factory working fogs.

Question, do I need to change out the alternator hardware if the belt keeps getting loose after a few weeks? May be when it gets cold but it was squeaking again tonight and checked and there is slack. I have adjusted it probably 4 times now. I loosen all bolts before locking it down and it seems set in stone after I tighten everything up.

Looking good ! .

? When you hear it squealing again, is any hardware at all loose ? .

If not I'd look hard at the V-belt ~ Pelican recently sent me 9.5MM V Belts and charged me for the proper 10MM ones, I was far away by the time I realized it and used them but they keep stretching....

Also, look for any cracks no matter how minute .

I hope you're using foreign made metric belts, there is a difference .

I ordered 5 from our host, so whatever they sell. I need to double check. I always keep a full belt kit in old cars so I keep spares.

Hardware is solid and tight every time. Does seem like the belt is stretching. No cracks,

Post Spare V Belts

As an air cooled VW driver since the 1960's I learned to carry spare fan belts in every vehicle I own....

I normally just throw the old belts in, they'll get me home in a pinch, I don't want to save a spare new belt for 6 years and have it dry rotted when I need it .

Just read through this whole thread. Great work! Any more progress?

Phillip: a question for you: what did you use to re-pad the seats? I've been meaning to do the seats in my W115.
