Continuing on my carpet mat resurrection project. Ideal for these December days...

I wanted to re-hem the hole (throttle sensor) in the top of the mat. Hem had long since disintegrated:

The hemming material I found is a little too light than I'd like, so I coloured it in with a fabric pen. It's actually perfect for the colour scheme now:

Now in situ, just need to stitch around the edges for strength and to add a little more in the aesthetics department:

Finished. It's not perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than before, which looked to the naked eye like the mat simply had a huge hole in it:

Another minor step forward I realize, but it's satisfying to get these type of small jobs done while the weather is horrible outside Looking forward to the heel pad to finally arrive and then I can complete this thing...!

After five weeks, the heel pad for my driver's floor mat finally showed up from Germany. Celebration time!

So with that, I disemboweled the remnants of the original heel pad, which was hard and disintegrating from age:

Gave the carpet a decent clean and shampoo:

Heel pad installed and stitched in:

And finished. This was the final piece of the puzzle to get my interior back into a state I'm happy with. Worth the time and effort for sure:

Here's a lovely old and new shot of the pads before surgery:

Those Henckles kitchen shears are the best. I keep a pair in my toolkit and am frequently amazed how handy they are.

... and so that - as they say - is that! Yesterday I received an offer for the car at a figure I couldn't turn down. I've taken a deposit for it and the new owner has already driven it down to his bodywork guy to book it in for a fresh paintjob!

I knew I was going to have to sell the car by the end of this coming summer anyway and so this situation makes sense for me. I'm most pleased because the new owner turned out to be a friend of a [Benz] friend and I know he will be a good custodian for the old gal.

I'm very happy to have taken this car from a level where it was not too much better than a parts car to something worth restoring fully. There were certainly times where I found yet another problem and had doubts, but everything was carried through to conclusion and now the car can be taken to the next level. It's far from perfect now, but buddy is definitely the guy to take it forward. He hasn't taken delivery as yet, so I can look longingly at the car for a little while yet as it chills on the driveway (already switched my insurance over to my W124 wagon) and I can't wait to see the car once it's got a new coat of paint. The wait for this shop is fairly long so it could be a while, but I'll be sure to see it when it's done and post some photos of it looking glorious and shiny

For now, this chapter of W115 ownership has come to an end, but it will certainly not be my last W115

It's not mine any more but I went to see the buddy who bought my W115 today. He also just got a rather ratty looking W108. Thought I'd shoot some images...

Car now has a Euro front bumper. Much better:

W108 will be getting thoroughly sorted before too long (and the W115 too). Always good to get some "before" photos though
