Made some more progress today.

Gutted the trunk..

A mess to clean up. All of these need degreased and pressure washed.

Got the fuel tank out...

Hmmm...

NEVER AGAIN will I buy something that has been ran on veggie. For size reference... thats a 2x12 that pile is laying on...

After 2 hours of heating the tank and flushing it out.. all of the solidified veggie is out. Have a few rocks left to get out but its ready to go back in...

While doing all of this, I did a pump flush with a pretty hot solvent. Hooked up an electric pump and just looped the supply and return to a container of solvent. Let it cycle for 4hrs or so. The fluid turned orange by the time I was done. A few chunks in the bottom of the container.

Seems to start ok. Have to give it throttle to get it to try though. It also REALLY struggles to restart when hot. If I let it sit for 10+ minutes after being at temp, it wont start (at least it wouldn't prior to the flush. Haven't tried it again since.

I'm starting to think the IP is clapped out. I'm not spending any more money on it until I can drive it down the road but if it drives somewhat decent... no shifting issues.. smoke goes away once I get a decent load on it for a bit... then I'll consider replacing the pump. I've found several salvage yards that have them off of relatively low mileage cars.

We'll see. I'll hopefully get the tank back in tomorrow afternoon or early next week. Now I'm really concerned about the lines. Based on how much solid gunk was in the screen and fittings.. the lines are likely caked full of crap too. Gonna have to get creative cleaning them.

I may have found a good used OM617 T injection pump if you're near So. Cal......

I'm in Southern Indiana. I found one at a somewhat local yard with a warranty.. shipped to my door for $100 with 200k on it. They had pics of the car which didn't appear to have any mods for oil use.

Been a bit since an update. Weather has been terrible and parts were taking a good while to roll in.

Got my salvage injection pump in finally but it came in damaged. The throttle lever was cracked. I was able to straighten it up and weld it without issue.

I rebuilt the lift pump while I was at it and just got the pump swapped on. It now runs really well. Starts really easily hot or cold with little to no haze.

I took it for it's first short drive and the trans definitely needs some tweaking.

I'll post pictures early next week.

More to come!

Thumbs up Making Progress

Keep us posted please .

Highly suggest draining the tranny and torque converter and doing a filter change before making any tranny tweaks .

I made up a simple modulator pressure test gauge using low co$t parts and discovered low pressure, I' not yet finished with this aspect, once I get the pressure where it belongs I expect I'll have to adjust the vacuum valve on the back of the injection pump ~ that's dead easy apart from the crispy and easy to break plastic retaining clip one needs to undo for each progressive adjustment .

Pictures as promised....

Replacement pump..

Pulled the lift pump and rebuilt it while I was at it...

Pump swap

It's running decently and seems to be getting better the more I drive it. I took it out last night after it warmed up a bit and ran it as hard as it would run for over a mile. Seems to have cleaned things up a bit.

Going to install motor mounts, transmission mount, and shifter bushings this weekend.

A small win today.

While on break at work, I pulled the tach amp and decided to clean it up and reflow the solder joints to see if I could get the tach working.

Took a little bit to get it cleaned up. Didn't add any solder.. just heated and reflowed each pin. Tach is working beautifully now.

Also discovered it is idling low. At hot idle, the tach is sitting around 600rpm. If I hold it at 750-800, it idles MUCH smoother and doesn't seem to shake the whole front end of the car. I'll bump that up a bit later this afternoon just to get it in spec and see how it goes.

Talking Endless Tinkering

YAY ! .

I recently replaced my tranny tail shaft mount and took the time to assemble it correctly, there's a sequence one needs to follow .

Oddly enough my distressing vibrations all dissapeared ~ looks like the tranny overhaul guy just slapped it to - gether any old way, even some of the special washers were in the wrong place .

You're going to love this car once it's fully fettled .

So I may aggravate a few on here... but oh well.

Ordered a set of 29" all terrains for it along with a dark blue raptor liner kit. Car isn't worth restoring due to the rough exterior and interior needing completely replaced.. but it can certainly be a fun daily.

I stuffed a 30" tire on the front last night just to see how it would clear. No contact lock to lock on the steering and still had some wiggle room. I was surprised. Ordered 29s to give a bit more room but should be just about right.

Progress....

Started on the exterior of the car. Got it pressure washed and started scuffing and blending the trashed paint.

Degreased and pressure washed again... then pulled into the shop.

Wiped down and coated all the bare metal with self etching primer

Tires came in...

Getting those mounted sometime this weekend but have to wait for my wheel adapters/spacers to show up.

Everything masked off.. ready for final wipe down.

Cleaned, scuffed, and sprayed the grill and headlight bezels.

Also smoked the front corners so they don't stand out as much against the black bezels. Should look decent. They look a lot darker in the picture than they really are. Have more of a smoke look than jet black.

Will spray the car tonight after work. Gotta get home and warm the shop up.. do final wipe down and make sure I didn't miss anything that needs scuffed.

Can't wait!

Sprayed the Raptor Liner last night. Letting it cure until this evening before I reassemble.

Cant wait to roll it out after work and reassemble the front end. There's a bit of primer on the trim I've gotta clean up yet.. but it's looking much better. Hope to get the tires mounted sometime this weekend.

Post Well,

It's certainly different ! .

There's a bronze colored '77 Oldsmobile two door with this treatment in a gas station in my town, it took a while to get used to but it's nice looking .

The blue came out a lot lighter in pictures than in person. Its a navy blue so fairly dark... but it's all together and driving again. I'm pretty happy with the outcome however I found a few things that need addressed asap. Rear coil springs are sagged/broke. Ordering new along with new rubbers. Also going to up the front rubbers to bump the height up a little bit.

Also found a guide rod bushing that is clapped. I've got one on the way.

Anyways.. here is the outcome so far.

More parts to order. Lol
