If you connect the two lines together that go to the ignition shut off valve and the engine shuts off. Then it is the valve that is the culprit. If it doesn't shut off then you have a leak some...

Aslo check your temp. sensors if the one closest to the front of the car is lose or disconnected. The glow plugs will stay on.

Do W115 and W123 use exactly the same injectors...

Do W115 and W123 use exactly the same injectors including pop pressure and nozzel size.
My thoughts are if they are different then that may be at least part of the problem

Also you should probably get a battery charger if you don't already have one. And a cheap mutimeter. Walmart usually has them for about $10 or harbor freight for both.
