Exhaust leak into cabin
It ended up being the manifold that was cracked on both sides. MB wanted to install new ones at several $1,000's. I had someone weld it and I finally sold this unreliable SUV.
Off I went to look...

Catalytic Converter leaking, can it be repaired or do I need a new one?
My Catalytic Converter on my 2000 ML 430 is split at the rear seam and the exhaust is leaking into the engine compartment, and thus into the cabin air.
New price by Benz is $1,300 plus $300...

New versus old Mercedes Quality
Lenny:
Not sure. The last European Benz I owned was in 1996, and it was a used one made in 1986.
But you certainly have a point with the price of the ML's. If they were really built in the old...

German, Japanese or US made cars
The Japanese must have a better handle on ensuring that the quality equals that of Japan.
Not sure with Benz. They may be relying on their US counterpart Chrysler for quality, and that may be...

Not happy with your ML
Please, do not think that your ML is a true German Benz. ML's are made in Alabama USA, certianly not to the same standards as German MB's.
If it was German made, you would be paying $10K to $20K...

Exhaust leak into cabin?!?
When I stop and have the air intake for the cabin set to outside air, a smell of exhaust fumes seems to enter the cabin. This does not happen while the car is moving. When I have the air on...

Disconnecting the Battery
Once you re-connect the battery the radio will not work until you enter the code.
You simply enter the radio code and then everything works again.
If you do not have the code, ask your local...

Your ML was made inthe USA, that's the real problem.
The issue is not really Benz quality, but that the ML's are made in Alabama and are more like Chrysler quality, and do not resemble anything like what is made in Stuttgard.
I have a 2000 ML 430...

Alabama made Benz
This is just one more of those Alabama made Benz issues.
Get a "Made in Germany" one next time. The difference in quality is astonishing.

Check Engine Light
If you can't figure it out, you can always disconnect the battery and re-connect it, that may reset the light.
Just remember that you will need the radio code handy so that you can use your radio...

How do you remove the cup holder ?
My passenger cup holder (2000 ML 430) does not stay closed anymore. The part is $36, but the labor to replace it is around $60.
Does anyone know how to take the old one out?
Thanks

Ebay did it for me!
I lost my manuals in the San Diego fires. A few bids on Ebay, and I got a complete set in very good condition for less than $30.
Ebay works for me:D
