You are thinking Cadillac Catera, that was a Opel Omega (had on for two years and loved it). The Omega was a solid car, heard the Cateras had some problems and they cut the engine power, what a shame.

Sounds to me like you have warped rotors. On one of my cars (one I rather forget I owned) started out like that. I got worse. Replaced the rotors and pads and the shuddering was gone.

since they were at it I had them replace the Belt also.

No more noise.
