Sorry I didn't read the 1st part of your post.... but unplugging the EGR valve should put the system into failsafe mode which does not open the flappers and give you poor top end.

Hey your problem is with your Intake manifold...
Hey your problem is with your Intake manifold flaps sticking... you can remove them clean them out. Make sure they opperate freely. it will clear up the problem. I'll post the a link to my earlier...

The forward/reverse action is reversed; push forward to go back, and push back to go forward. Also the tilt/telescope function has ceased with the wheel fully up and forward.
I got the car back...
