I'm not sure witch micro switch you are referring to. The only one I can see is the micro switch next to where the bowden cable attaches to the throttle but this micro switch is for the CIS injection...

My 88 300E had similar problem. I changed the catalytic converter (which had 230,000 miles) with a generic one for $170 at my local muffler shop and the HC and Nox numbers dropped by about 40%.
