because head gasket failure is extrememly rare, and i jsut had the oil cooler replaced.....i've had this diagnosis before....

sorry make that 170k miles!

been doing fine- running it on 15-20 minutes trips, nothing major, watching oil and water levels carefullly..... don't think it's a blown head gasket...but it did start...

no. 17k miles.... it had been using water and oil, and recently replaced oil cooler, radiator, and battery...

it just died.... it was making some rattling noises before- if you could look at some...

they say the 2000 ml 430 is locked up- and the engine is dead- i'm not sure i believe them- i understand you have to take the serpentine belt off and squirt water out the spark plugs...... also could...

yeah that's right. but where i am i can't find a mechanic to jsut fix the rings- they want to replace it.... it's probably faster and easier....

this is a small oil cooler near the power steering pump.... it has fins on it.... just trying to find a cheap place to purchase it.... and how to install... it's leaking oil all over the engine....

thanks.. sorry for the repeated question , but i had a shop foreman in houston tell me there was no way the coolant in the oil cooler could enter the combustion chamber... therefore couldn't create...

are you saying the coolant i've beeen putting in the reservior maybe leaking in the motor from the oil cooler???? because now i've also got a pretty big oil leak...

hey, you may be on to something because that little "radiator" is now leaking oil all over the serpentine belt- i had to replace the belt yesterday because it slid off..... so you're saying that...

it's blowing white smoke out exhaust- car will start but can't be moved... new radiator put on yesterday! ran fine last night, but with occassional sputtering, then this morning- wouldn't even turn...

it's now blowing smoke out the tailpipe- and it can't be moved.... it will start , but you can't drive it... any kind of feel for pricing in gaskets, and warped head repairs, etc.

when i turn it off for a short time-- less problem
when i turn it off for like 30 minutes- bigger problem

after a "long" stop- it makes squeaking sqwuaking noises under the hood...

ok here's what it's doing. on about 1/2 of the starts it will run rough, and the other 1/2 of the starts will run perfectly smooth! it did on one occassion tonite it did blow out a massive amount...

Help!

ok, so i finally get the radiator replaced ( it's been a while) .. i was really careful to keep the level full and only drive short distances...it only over heated like 3 times, and i quickly shut it...

there's 2 slots at the bottom right and bottom left of the unit- should come right out. you'll have to hold the unit on your leg while you're fumbling with the wires......hope it isn't fried----

oh yeah, you could pull it out and "reboot it" unplug the wires and replug- it comes out easy with a swiss army knife on each side- i used to do one side at a time-

i hear you!!! i think it's mostly because i'm in a resort area in florida--that's good info- thanks for the post, but until then, it only leaks out to the bottom of the reservoir- the most it's ever...

yeah, thanks. the leak seems to be coming from the main intake at the top of the radiator---the big hose on the drivers side---- can't you do a repair on the cracked part? got some "liquid steel"...

it's losing about a gallon a day! since the local radiator shop wants $1000 to replace it, i'm just adding fluid-- how much stop leak can i use? it never overheats, and never seems to leak below the...
