Antenna retracted leaving 5 inches, now wont extend at all

Last couple of times I turned off the radio, the antenna wouldn't retract all the way. The last time it did retract all the way, but then it wouldn't extend at all. Help!

Yeah, I unscrewed the knob from the back, driver's door-both the knob and the short rod are, indeed, threaded. Just to prove it myself, I swapped knobs between those two doors and each one worked....
