pull the valve covers and be sure that the return holes for the oil are not all plugged up, this is a real concern. if all is clear, check for a loose rocker by following the firing order...

vw has had a diesel in the us since around 1981 with the rabbit diesel and then the jetta,golf etc and still today they have the 1.9 diesel.

my 87 420 sel has a problem that i would like to fix, on a "cold" start in the morning (i live in central florida, it averages 70-80 deg. in the morning) it almost always starts right up and idles...
