Yes there's an o-ring in there. In some GM applications there's a switch installed there, but for MB's it's just plugged off. You'll have to remove the freon first it's under pressure.

That would be my guess. Probably sticky varnish deposits or a seal that's been dry too long and not doing its job. I'd stay away from those "rebuilds in a bottle" they could do more long term damage...

I bought 2 14mm wrenches for $1 each years ago. Just clamp it in a vise, heat it up with a torch & bend to the desired angle (mine are about 52 deg). They've worked fine for me.
