pry bar?
I used a pry bar to push the tie rod down into the tapered socket. Once you get a few threads with out it turning you can release the pressure on the pry bar. It worked for me.;)

Get yourself a mightyvac to check the vac at the vacuum control valve and check to see if the modulator holds vacuum. Search this forum, there is a wealth of info to help you fine tune your trans.
