Sounds great! I'd drive it a bit and see if the smoke subsides. Spec is 14° ATDC, ±0.5°, so you are right on target. Slightly advanced is better for overall performance IIRC. I usually aim for ~13.5°...

Fantastic that you got a basket! Makes everything easier. With the basket in place, you may not need to remove the tensioner, but it does not hurt to lessen tension on the chain while doing this job....

124 and 140 definitely had the vacuum wastegate as of USA model year 1990.

I am not sure about the V126 / 350SDL. Never owned one.
