Got one here...

1980 300SD, 277,000 and counting. It's my daily driver to work and back 46 miles round trip. Runs and looks great.

Oil fill

Consider the "halfway" mark a safety zone.... when the oil heats up like everything else it expands and it will bring the oil level up.

This spring I spoke with the "battery" guys at Les Schwab. They told me if I store my '80 300SD again for the Winter, I should disconnect my battery...to "save yourself a lot of bother AND money"....

I stored mine over the winter last year (This year it's my daily driver :D lovin' it!). The battery was dead when I woke her up so I took it down to Les Schwab for testing and they told me to go...

depressing.... po of my 1980 300SD gutted not only the sunroof parts but took out all of the foam backing and installed? if that's what you want to call it, some kind of diy headliner... constantly...

coolant drain stuff

1) Drain the radiator by unscrewing the radiator drain plug underneath it.
2) Close drain plug plus fill the radiator with tap water.
3) Run engine until warm with heater on, then wait 30 minutes....

Go to Dieselgiant.com and look up the tutorial for changing out the master vacuum valve behind the door panel.

Sending unit

Did you have to remove the sending unit? I have a fuel gauge problem and I think I'll probably have to remove the SU and at least clean it up and possibly Replace or Repair it? Hoping to just clean...

I got an email recently that claims WD40 will remove spray paint without harming the car's paint job..... ??? worth a try on a small area to start.
