I would use superglue in the new plastic tabs, then sprinkle with backing powder. Instant bond thats stronger than the plastic.... Try it you'll see. You can sand it, use a dremal and shape it etc...

Here is part 1 of my dash/cluster redo.

I used Moman plasma gauges, 3 coats Testers florescent on the needles, Replaced all the bulbs in the cluster with White LED, and added a pair pf little UV LED to next to the clear plastic reflector...
