I’d say with timely oil changes these things last indefinitely.
Probably why there are keys to compensate for stretch.
Check your stretch.
And perhaps change out the tensioner and rail.

Removal of the steering gear allows for access to get a torque wrench in and tighten to spec.
Use MB gasket without sealer.
Great time to also change the steering bushing.

Otherwise, the pump would probably have a hard time building up vacuum.

tranny needed a rebuild shortly after.
I'd say checking the fluid would be a good start. And maybe even change fluid/filter if the last service is unknown.
