Just replaced caps and rotors on my 1991 500SL, definitely starts much faster now, doesn't seem to need to turn over very much before it fires.
Always seemed to need a couple of revolutions...

Purely from a fault finding perspective, it seems to me you have a problem on the CAN bus which links the various modules and sensors controlling the engine....

I am a very lucky man, it has turned out that mine didn't need rebuilding.
The PO hadn't bled the pump or the SLS system, a few hours work on my part and its all working again :)

Cancel this request, a proper bleed of the system has sorted out the problem :D
Looks like the PO didn't bleed the SLS pump when he had the seals replaced on the PS part of the pump.
