Pull off the main vacuum line connection that screws onto the vacuum pump. Fish around in there and see if any debris or the vacuum check valve broke off. That can clog up and reduce vacuum.

Don't even have to do that. Just make a homemade fuel tank under the hood next to the injection pump using a milk jug with fresh diesel. Put both fuel lines in there, prime the system and crank.

FS: OM617 Vacuum Pump Check Valve - 0049971872

Ended up not needing this. Brand new still in the Mercedes bag. This the check valve between the vacuum pump on the main vacuum line. I think this is only for 1980 to 1985 OM617 cars.
