I'd say not. Even up to 99 they didn't. Now the new CDIs are much better and can keep up with the gassers but only because they have that turbo and the gassers are still NA.

Lets not forget the part where if you took away the mileage, I really don't see much of a benefit. If I wasn't driving 80 miles a day, I'd have gas cars in my garage.
