without vacuum running to it, the egr will stay closed, just the way you want it.

I have tried both the "three part" and the "two part" solution the fine folks here came up with. Both worked fine for me.

In the three part version, I ran it for a bit without touching the vacuum...

Ho..., my bad. Tap the wire to pin 35, not cut....

Ho..., my bad. Tap the wire to pin 35, not cut. Leave the wires connected at the transducer as well, removing and capping only the vacuum lines. I'll fix the schematic tomorrow.

9 days later and still going strong, no codes. The car runs much better without the soot pouring into the engine; I think I am getting better MPG too. I will check for sure at the next fill up.

Do a part # search, and search for 6110940048 (remove the “a” from the part number)
