Thanks for the info

I did think that it was likely for the heater/AC. I can't get a picture of it now, but it is in a 2x2 square inch metal box with large pencil size holes all over and is filled with a number of coils...

What is the purpose of the electrical resistor part on the right side fender of my 85 300D? The 83 240D does not have this part.
