I don't beleive the final filter is allowing water through, I believe by using fuel conditioner, and buying good fuel, no water ever makes it to the filter.

Just another data point, in the 27 years of driving MB diesels, I've dumped every final fuel filter into a mason jar upon changing it out. I don't remember ever seeing any water in the filter.

Actually, installing that water toy on your benz will lower overall realiability of your vehicle. It may increase its tolerance for bad fuel but it's another device to fail/leak/screw up.
