I just did the 50,000 mile service on our Passat....
I just did the 50,000 mile service on our Passat. Over the last 10k miles it used 2.5 gallons of DEF / Adblue. Cost to replenish? $12. Yes, that works out to $0.0012 per mile.

The Passat's engine is somewhat different....
The Passat's engine is somewhat different. Different HPFP, intercooler, and injectors. Of course the exhaust / emissions system is quite different too.

The system is able to test to be sure the correct fluid is in the tank. It needs to be a specific concentration.
Our Passat uses DEF / Adblue. One 5 gallon tank will go about 15,000 miles....
