I don't have a drill or bearing press, I replaced them all. I also blew out the ports to the lifters and they were all clear and oil is most definatly getting up in there. the oil pressure gage...

The process was easy, thanks everybody, not one prob. bad news is changing the lifters didn't fix the problem.

I got a question about the chain tensioner, I could push the plunger down...

got the lifters out IAW the thread above. No problem at all, now waiting for tomorrow. I did notice a couple of lifters had a burnt smell. Is that unusual?

anybody got the part number for the head screw...

anybody got the part number for the head screw socket 1/2 in drive? as suggested I'm NOT pulling the head but after 240K actual miles I'd like to re torque them IAW tech advice provided

I didn't think it had hyd lifters if it was an overhead cam. that would explain the noise because that's exactly what it sounds like, when the rpm and oil pressure is up the noise fades and then...

I've decided to pull the head on the 93 300D, by gawd Ima gonna find that chuffing and clacking. I found a site that looks good for valve adjustments which I'm going to do first. Any good links...
