the SL is sold

We sold the SL last September to a gentleman from Delaware. He and his wife flew to Bismarck and drove the car home. The last I heard, it's doing well in its new home.

We still have the SL. My wife and I drove it out in the country and back earlier this week on a fine upper midwest summer afternoon. We drove it to Fargo last month (400 miles round trip).

I...

No, we still have the car, and once spring finally arrives here (it's supposed to snow this week), I plan to take the hardtop off. I'm sure the Audi TT we were thinking about is long gone, but we...

Yes, that's a low-res digital photo that I have posted before. I plan to take some new, better quality pics this week.

On the off-topic comment, Beartooth Pass is a terrific drive. The snow at...

1983 280SL Euro 5 speed

I wasn't really planning to sell our SL, but my wife would really like an Audi TT roadster, and I saw one this week that is tempting. So, if we can find a buyer for the SL, we'll make the move.

Congratulations on the beautiful Euro 280SL. We bought ours from an Air Force officer who bought it in Germany and imported it himself. It's "sliverblue" with blue plaid cloth/tex (heated) seats,...

Our 280SL has blue plaid cloth on the seating surfaces, with a strip of solid blue Tex along the edges. I think they look great, and actually prefer cloth seats, especially for a non-airconditioned...

The main reason why I bought our SL is that it has a manual transmission. I have no interest in owing another car with an automatic. If I was buying another SL (and I don't intend to because I like...

advice on renewing 20 year old suspension

Our 1983 280SL is now over 20 years oid, and I suspect that all of the suspension pieces are original. The car drives ok, and has only 85,000 miles, but I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to...

280SL rpm question

Our 280SL has a five speed manual. At an indicated 70 mph, it turns about 2800 rpm in fifth gear, and about 3200 rpm in fourth. Last summer, we drove 100 miles on the interstate at 70-75 mph with...

Nokian Hakkapeliitta 1 snow tires, 205-70/14, mounted on MB steel wheels, with lug bolts and MB stainless steel wheel covers. These were used on our 1983 280SL; I don't know if they fit other MB...

I've never driven the 280SL with automatic, but our car with the 5 speed is pretty quick, likely as quick or quicker than any 450 or 380 with automatic.
