On second thought ....

how did you determine you have green ATF? Did you pull the dipstick? ( I think '96 car would have a dipstick.)

my front calipers are fixed. The documentation I have (MB DVD and AlldataDYI) seems to mix the information concerning both types. I pulled one of the cover plugs and the bolts in question...

Wrong bolts ....

the spec you quote is for the bolts that fasten the caliper carrier to the suspension. I will be replacing these during my work.

my 1997 E320 does not have one but if you look at the parts list, there is one listed. I believe that some early W210's had a different pump that required a filter.

Replaced CSP sensor today ....

was an easy job acomplished with a 3/16 hex wrench. Really needed a 5mm but couldn't find my metric set. Car seems to start more readily. Cleared the diagnostic codes so we shall see what happens...

I'd try to get a hardcopy of the original NB manual. I'd be afraid that the CD stuff is just scans of the pages. In any case, buy the stuff produced by MB.

I'll venture a guess that ...

is one of the dampers in the HVAC system adjusting itself. The next time it occurrs, try varying the mode switch on the HVAC controller and see if it changes.

I would proceed a little differently. Since the spacing between the sensor and the magnet on the cam gear is critical, I'd unplug the connector and insert some very fine wires into each pin...

put new ignition coil in for cylinders 2&5. Car is running good again.
