I used the bronze-colored small engine fuel hose...

I used the bronze-colored small engine fuel hose available at the Home Depot. It lasts longer than the proper MB part and has never leaked in at least 7 years. Costs a lot less too.

Check the timing chain stretch

I had a similar problem and I was positive that air was somehow getting sucked into the fuel system and it was especially noticeable when cold. Turned out to be timing chain stretch of about 10 deg....

I solved my random missing or sputtering engine problem recently. A new timing chain and tensioner did the trick. The old tensioner still seems OK tho.

My old chain was stretched about 9 degrees...
