I used the belt specified for the 3.5. (possibly the only part on the 3.5 that's cheaper than the 3.0, since it's shared with the GM 3800 V6)

I think you'll be fine with the stock belt.

Gen 2 W126s (and W124s which share the same climate control system) have overload detection on the climate control outputs. A shorted electric water pump shouldn't be able to start a fire on these...

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know :) I previously increased the full load delivery a bit. I think one more overall increase is still called for, but I want to avoid black smoke :)
