Have ya thought about getting a custom set of rods made for it? If ya really enjoy the car it's something to consider.
Pauter is one place of the top of my head that makes billet forged rods... in CUSTOM lengths with custom sizes for the crank bearing end as well as the pin for the piston. Not to menton the bolts are going to have a tensile strength of ~170000psi on up. ARP style stuff. Not sure how strong the OE MB ones are (pretty beefy I'm sure)
