ALDA cap - how to remove?
Who here has removed this little cap on the ALDA without just trashing it. It's kinda cute, and I sort of hate to stab it with a screwdriver and just rip it out of the way, but I can't see how to grip it without tearing it up. Ideas?

I don't think there is any way around that. Just rip at it.

That's a collector's item by now. Could add a few hundred dollars to the value of the car if/when you sell it. Leave the cap on and do a search on gsxr's procedure to adjust the ALDA by shimming.

No way arround it, pry the plastic out, the metal will only come off when the retaining nut is removed. Iam really glad that I did the job, just 1/2 turn CCW made a world of difference. Now I don't mind driving the car in Atlanta traffic especially with the A/C on!

Shimming will work but is alot more hassle than just prying that little cap off!

Collectors item? Are you kidding? Just carefully pry off the cap and then use some needle nose pliers to sort of peel the metal away until you have exposed the nut. I used a black plastic chair leg replacement to cover the whole mess after I adjusted the ALDA. It almost looks factory and you don't have to mess with the whole shimming process which takes way too much time for me.

The collector's item thing was tongue-in-cheek. Nothing tongue-in-cheek about damaging the ALDA so read everything ever written about ALDAs before turning the adjustment screw too far.

See Sixto's ADVICE ! These are Very finely engineered and machined automotive marvels. You could find yourself with a disfunctional (spelled DEAD) auto or maybe even the opportunity to visit your local E.R. if you are not prudent and cautious. I got the cover off and have tweeked it. The car came alive. About 6 months later I needed to tweeking again. Worked well. 6 mo is back again and I got it set again but the srew head snapped. Is this replaceable? Could I grinde the nut down and hacksaw the center of the screw and put the nut back on again?

People will tell you to just remove it, if you've already messed with it that much you were probably pretty close the extent of the adjustment anyway...
