kickdown switch adjust on 240D
I have had no kickdown from 4th to 3rd gear for a couple of weeks now (I used to before that?), although I have been getting a kickdown from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. I checked my kickdown switch and realized that the pedal wasnt touching it even when "floored" so my temporary fix has been this hose clamp which allows me to press the kickdown switch when I "floor" it. So, with the temporary fix I can get a kickdown, but without it I cant get it from 4th to 3rd.
so my questions: 1 - how do I adjust the pedal to make contact with the kickdown switch? 2 - also, why arent I getting a kickdown from 4th to 3rd when I floor it (but without hitting the kickdown switch)? Should I worry about this or just let it slide... Thanks for looking Dan 83 240D - running two tank WVO system |

#1.....I glued a small split section of fuel hose to the round part of the go pedal. Was enough top do it on mine. Watch someone inform me of something else stupid simple to adjust it. #2....you won't kick down 4th to 3rd at 70 mph....but you will about 40-50 mph ... but I think the kick down switch will be doing that.

DR. thanks for the advice
sounds like the hose clamp may be more than a temp fix... dan |

I am using the original 240D automatic in my turbo conversion. My pedal also was not contacting my kickdown switch. I adjusted the throttle linkage at the forward end of the shaft that comes from the firewall, so I get the same pedal travel, but it starts at a lower pedal position. Make sure your fuel pump still gets it's full travel when the pedal contacts the kickdown switch. I also had to adjust the vacuum modulator source on the injection pump, as my 1-2 shift got too firm when I adjusted the linkage.

Once you adjust the linkage at the firewall:
Double-check to make sure you are getting full throttle at the IP, by having someone hold the pedal to the floor for you.
I was told my a long-time Mercedes mechanic that a throttle adjustment problem is one indicator of collapsed motor mounts. They may be worth checking if you have not done so.

that is sage advice. now that you mention it, the driver side motor mount is shot and probably has lost at least an inch or two... it is amazing that this would throw everything out of alignment, including the range of the go-pedal!
