Vacuum Diagrams

Here are some vacuum diagrams to help you diagnose your W123, W124 or W126 diesels. The 240D diagrams were looked up for a 83 year model, but should be pretty much the same for 82-85. I've also added some wiring and flow diagrams. Also note that there are year to year (and sometimes, throughout the year) changes and these diagrams may not reflect everything exactly as on your model.

In reviewing the diagrams for the '85, it is apparent that this vehicle has a vacuum system that differs significantly from the '84 300SD. The changeover valve on the valve cover is controlling the transmission modulation again, something that the '84 does not have.

There is also a "cam plate" with a "valve" attached in the aforementioned diagrams. The '84 does not have this arrangement.

Just a word of caution. The vacuum systems did change frequently throughout the years. The '85 probably has the most changes of them all.

Edited to add 82 300D vacuum diagram and a few other things.

Edited to add a couple more diagrams and a link to Installing the Fast Start Glowplug kit (changing over from loop-style to pencil-style glowplugs).

Edited to add a couple more items including the injector parts breakdown.

Excellent information here. I've been dissecting my 240 and 300 for about a year now and going through all the long forgotten maintenance items that were neglected before I acquired the girls. Tho I kept them on the road, my weekends and these winters allow lots of time to bond and restore to a couple of nice looking and driving cars.

Phantoms,

This is great info and should be put in the DIY sticky for future reference. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Thanks again,

I vote for a sticky also, if it has not been done already

In hopes of having all this stuff on one site I merged most of this into the vacuum section of our DIY pages, there is another page for the fuel related stuff. http://207.210.95.34/~boostd/Vacuum/

I believe Kinkos has plotters that you can use, I shall take a look next time I am there. Hum, a room covered in car porno, I can live with that.
