Mercedes Jeep on Craigslist

Greasy:

That is the same photo a guy posted a couple of weeks ago on Craigslist,
but the jeep was in South America...( no kidding!)

Proceed cautiously...

18.5?

You gotta be kidding me. I'd laugh my way right back into my car and drive off if I heard those numbers.

$18500 is WAY too high for a 300GDt. $5-9K might be more realistic.

G class is a whole other thing guys. Can't compare it to what a 123 in prisitine shape would sell for. These cars are usuallly ALWAYS above $10k... and $20k is not unheard of.

Snibble is correct.

Pre 2002 G-wagons are relatively rare in this country and those that were sold pre-2002 were probably imported by either Europa or Keiser Motors at prices approaching $100K at the time! Most pre-2002 models usually fetch between $17-$27 depending on condition and engine. The diesels usually command a good price because they can be easily registered in the Republik of Khalifornia Parts can be expensive too, especially suspension parts, since most supply houses (dealers or after-market) don't do high volume G part sales.

It's all about supply and demand. Relatively few early G's in the country with a fairly good demand for them keeps the prices inflated. BTW, my '85 SWB 300GD is a blast in the desert.

There's some dealer in Portland that's asking almost $25K for an '80 280GE. In the CL ad they mention it's got 110K miles with 10K on a rebuild. Aren't these engines supposed to go 200K+ easily? That to me sounds fishy. Lack of maintenance? What else was neglected?

Well since its so old you would probably have to pay the $31k cash, plus tax ect.

Heck with that, for that kind of money I'd just finance the difference for a 1-2 year old G500. 1991 is a 15 year old vehical at this point.

lietuviali

well yeah, they shouldnt need rebuilding...but who knows, they may have driven over a big rock and knocked a hole in the oil pan. no matter how good a motor is wo oil it is a short time til it is trashed.

yeah, i have entertained the thought of a g from time to time. the rustiest least desireable model is still 7 or 8k. anything any good at all is in the mid teens or higher.

Isn't the GE a gas engine or am I confused?

and

gd is diesel. they came with as small as 230e and 240d motors. they must be frightfully slow with either of those.
